Is Cartagena safe to walk around at night

Stick to the main tourist areas (Walled City/Getsemaní central squares) and there's a huge police presence, but always take a taxi home after midnight.

The Walled City is extremely safe at night. It's heavily policed, well-lit, and always busy with tourists and street vendors. You can walk around there without worry until the early hours.

Youngstunna is right about the police presence in the tourist zones. The key is to stick to the well-traveled, brightly lit areas within the walls. If you leave the Walled City or Getsemaní, definitely take a registered taxi, especially after 10 PM.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Cartagena is one of the safest cities in Colombia for tourists. The main concern is usually petty theft, not violent crime, so secure your phone and wallet.

If you stay in the Walled City, you’ll be fine. If you’re staying in Getsemaní, just make sure your hotel is near the central plaza, as that area is constantly monitored and buzzing with activity late into the night. It's beautiful to walk around.

Yes, I walked the Walled City walls at night for the views and felt perfectly secure. It's a very tourist-friendly place.

A good rule of thumb: If a street is completely dark and empty, don't walk down it. Otherwise, enjoy the evening atmosphere. The city feels very much alive after sunset.
