Getting from Sucre to Potosí, bus or shared taxi

Planning to travel from the Constitutional Capital to the mining city soon. Is taking the bus a terrible idea or should I just split a taxi with other travelers?

The trufi (shared taxi) is definitely the smarter choice for this route. It’s faster, more comfortable, and the cost difference isn't enough to justify the longer, bumpier ride on the typical local bus. Just make sure the trufi is full before it leaves.

It really depends on your budget. If you want the absolute cheapest, take the bus. If you want a solid balance of speed and comfort, the trufi is the best option for sure.

I actually took a slightly more upscale minivan service, a "minibús ejecutivo". It cost a little more than the trufi but was air-conditioned and guaranteed a direct, fast journey without waiting for it to fill up. Check at the terminal for one of those.

The bus is generally safe, but the shared taxi gives you more direct control over your luggage, which is nice. For an extra hour of sightseeing, the slight premium for the trufi is worth it.

I disagree that the bus is terrible, but it's not great. You can usually snag one that's slightly older and less comfortable. The shared taxi offers more consistent quality and efficiency for the trip.
