Best way to get around the country without renting a car

Are the trains reliable for getting between cities like Tunis and Sousse. Should I stick to shared taxis (louages) instead

Train system connects the main cities but expect delays, they are never on time. Louages are much faster and pretty affordable for intercity travel, just a shared van
