    Is public transport easy to use in Santiago

    The Metro is great, especially for the core areas. Line 1 runs through almost all the key tourist stops. You definitely need the Bip! card though, as you can't pay cash on the buses or trains. Get and charge it right away.

    Avoid using your phone while walking, especially near the outer walls or gates. It’s the easiest thing for a motorcycle snatch-and-grab.

    A few pairs of good quality, non-cotton hiking socks are better than many cheap pairs. Wet or sweaty feet are a fast track to blisters, so moisture-wicking fabric is a must.
